 COMBATTING WITH COMPASSION:
Youngstown Tech Entrepreneur, Brandon J. Kovach has developed a social network for those suffering with Heroin Addictions. Heroes of Heroin is a social network funded in whole by The Kovach Family Foundation in order to, " allow users to find supporting friends and opportunities for a drug free future." The public network operates similarly to facebook with a feed, blog, and private messaging option. It has both android and apple app downloads and is completely free. The premise is to allow those afflicted with addiction a judgement free community to find and share stories of hope, find a support group for strength, and most importantly keep those who have already defeated their affliction from slipping backwards. Brandon believes that we must combat this issue across all of our communities. Public statement: "for too long we have talked about this issue without empowering the very people seeking help. It is my hope that this network empowers people to take control of their own situation and to extend a helping hand to others in the battle. We have to combat this issue from a perspective of compassion. I'm tired of politicians using these people as props for their own objectives and the stigma and stereotyping that prevents people from seeking help even when they want it. We as a society have got to adopt a mindset where we see those afflicted as people. Quit debating if it's a disease or not, and focus on the issue where it begins. As a young person, I have buried too many people who had promising lives stolen by this dangerous drug, and if empowering people to find a safe network where they are away from the stigmas of our society can save just one single life, I will be forever gratified. I've been blessed with a talent for tech, and it would be against everything I believe as a Christian if I did not utilize that talent to better our society as a whole."
